I am always on the search for the best ingredients without being crazy in costs. If I could, I would always buy organic but for many reasons that is not possible. Sometimes it is cost and sometimes because there isn't an allergy friendly option available. There are a few fruits and vegetables I always try to do it's organic. Think "dirty dozen". I love to get as much of my ingredients locally as I can.
That being said I wanted to share some of the ingredients that go into the goodies that come out of my kitchen.
First up is sugars.
I have started using Zulka Pure Cane Sugar, it is a less processed sugar, non-gmo, vegan and very affordable. When it is called for I only use local maple syrup and local raw honey. I always make sure the powdered sugar I buy says gluten free, just so that GF is always on hand for when I need it.
Shortening... Earth Balance Vegan Buttery Sticks, love that it is trans fat free and it tastes great. I use it the most. When a recipe calls for unsalted butter I use Fleischmann's Unsalted, unfortunately not trans fat free I but haven't been able to find a suitable replacement yet, luckily it isn't used very often. I just found a trans fat free replacement for vegetable shortening that I like. Tropical Traditions Organic Palm Shortening it is Sourced from Eco-friendly Sustainable Farms. I absolutely loved how my "buttercream" tastes and the creaminess that I get using Tropical Traditions. Zoye Premium Vegetable Oil is a non-GMO, soybean oil and best of all it is made in Michigan. Rounding out this category is Coconut Oil.
Flours....King Arthur unbleached, unbromated All-Purpose Flour, King Arthur Unbleached Pastry Flour, King Arthur Unbleached Cake Flour Blend and King Arthur gluten-free flour blend. Wheat Montana Prairie Gold Premium Wheat. Wheat Montana is 100% Premium Whole Wheat Flour from Hard White Spring Wheat, chemical free and GMO free. Two other Gluten Free Flours I like are Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free All-Purpose Baking Flour and Domata Gluten-Free Recipe Ready Flour.
Other ingredients...Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips, King Arthur Black Cocoa, Hershey's Natural Unsweetened Cocoa, Rodelle Gourmet Baking Cocoa European dutch process, Argo Baking Powder Aluminum Free, Silk Organic Unsweetened Soymilk and Silk Unsweetened Vanilla Almondmilk, Pure Vanilla and Pure Almond extracts.
This list is certainly not everything I use but is most of the main ingredients and gives you an idea of the quality that goes into GingerKakes products.
